I only ever wear 100% cotton super structured denim that takes me years to really break in, so when I first heard of “sweatpants jeans,” I decided to pass. However, after being bombarded by post after post about how life-changing Rag & Bone’s Miramar “jeans” are, I gave in and bought a pair for a girls’ trip to Italy. I’m easily influenced.
I like to be comfortable yet a little put together at the airport (you won’t catch me in leggings or tailored pants), so I thought a sweatpants-jeans hybrid could be my middle ground. At $258, the jeans were a splurge for me, but I took the risk, and I have whatever the total opposite of buyer’s remorse is: Honestly, these may be one of the best purchases I have ever made. They’re worth the hype.
What Are Sweatpants Jeans?
Sweatpants jeans combine the look of denim with the comfort of your favorite sweats — a match made in heaven. Rag & Bone’s collection of sweatpants jeans is called Miramar, named after the brand’s signature printing style that creates the illusion of denim on other fabrics like French terrycloth or satin.
The majority of Rag & Bone’s Miramar jeans are made of a lightweight French terry, which is a knit material that has a smooth front with a looped backing that looks similar to a bath towel but feels soft against the skin. It’s 100% cotton, so it’s nice and airy too.
The outside of the pants have a printed denim twill design.
Inside of the pant leg are small French terry loops.
Some of the Miramar jeans have traditional denim design details like a zippered fly, a real button closure, belt loops, and front pockets. These styles are a little pricier. Other Miramar jeans are more like a regular pair of sweatpants with a true elastic waistband and slit pockets that are hidden in the side seam. All of them have printed back pockets and stitching.
